Town Council calls for a new member

wilmslow

Following the resignation of Bradley Russell from Wilmslow Town Council, members will be selecting a new member to represent the Lacey Green Ward

An election will not take place to fill the vacancy because ten voters in the Lacey Green Ward did not submit a written request for an election so, because the Council's term has more than six months to run, they are required to co-opt an individual to Wilmslow Town Council.

Councillors agreed to seek nominations from individuals who wish to take up this role, these nominations must be received no later than midday on Wednesday, 28th June.

The Chairs of all the Council's committees, and any other members wishing to attend, will interview all the candidates following a short presentation from them as to why they seek co-option.

When the Town Council meets on July 17th they will then vote for their preferred candidate. Each member will receive one vote and the successful candidate must receive an absolute majority of those present and voting.

Councillor Martin Watkins said "It may well be that there are some of our residents who do not relish the thought of going through the election process like all of us have been through but might be interested in being co-opted because they can bring some certain skills to what we're doing.

"We're opening this up to all the citizens of our town, for people to apply if they so wish."

Anyone wishing to apply to be a member of Wilmslow Town Council does not need to be a resident of Lacey Green.

You should apply in writing, or email, to the Town Clerk saying why you are applying and what they you to offer, particularly to Lacey Green.

Applicants will need to satisfy the Town Clerk that they are not debarred, i.e. have criminal convictions or have been declared bankrupt. They will be required to make a short presentation at the interview stage and attend to the next full council meeting on Monday, 17th July.

The Clerk to the Town Council is Matthew Jackson. He can be contacted at: Wilmslow Town Council, Wilmslow Parish Hall, Cliff Road, Wilmslow, SK9 4AA. Email [email protected].
