Wilmslow Wells for Africa are holding their first Souperday of the year at Wilmslow Methodist Church on Saturday, 4th March.

The charity has been organising two souperdays each year since 1990 which have proved very popular, attracting a solid band of supporters who turn up every time to enjoy the soup and bread.

There will be a choice of four soups served with bread, all of which is homemade, plus a hot drink is included in the entry price.

You can also choose to buy from a wide selection of cakes, preserves and textiles.
Jenny Gibbs, Chair of Wilmslow Wells said "All the money taken goes to our charity to help provide clean, more reliable sources of water in rural Africa.

The Souperday will run from 11am to 2pm at Wilmslow Methodist Church on Water Lane. Admission is £4 with children half price.

Wilmslow Wells for Africa is a direct action charity which aims to improve life in drought-stricken areas of Africa by providing wells, pumps, dams and water collection equipment. in total the charity has raised over £1million since they were formed in 1984.

Their last Souperday in November raising £1080 and over £200 from the sale of Christmas cards.

They keep administration costs to a minimum so that 99.2% of everything they raise is spent directly on projects to provide clean water, made possible because their organisation operates entirely on voluntary effort.

In 2013 through Village Water, Wilmslow Wells funded three wells and improved sanitation in Zambia.

Grace Mwangala, who lives in Zambia, said "Village Water has assisted us very much because before they came, we used to draw water from the stream and it was very dirty. But now we have clean water and diseases like diarrhoea have reduced. This is even making us work hard and our children are not missing school any more, not like before because they are now healthy."
