Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service are reporting a successful bonfire period, with crews attending over 117 incidents across the weekend.
In the lead up to Bonfire Night, the Service saw an increase in arson related incidents across Cheshire, however, as the weekend drew closer this surge began to dip.
On November 5th, the service recorded an attendance of more than 60 incidents between 12pm midday and 12 midnight compared to over 80 incidents last year.
This decrease is believed to be indicative of the prevention efforts of Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and Cheshire Police. The Service engaged with their local communities, handing out fire safety advice throughout the bonfire period.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Mark Cashin, said: "As with previous years, Bonfire Night was a busy time for firefighters and control staff, however the work we do in advance alongside our partners continues to make a difference and reduce the number of incidents.
"We don't want to stop people from enjoying themselves, however we do want to keep people safe as they enjoy what should be a fun family event. We know all too well the devastating impact the misuse of fire and fireworks can have and so are committed to doing all we can to prevent it.
"I would like to thank everyone who took our advice and attended an organised display rather than putting on their own."
The only local incident reported took place on Monday, 7th November, when fire crews extinguished a pile of wood which was on fire in Wilmslow.
One fire engine from Wilmslow was called to Colshaw Drive at 4.22pm to attend to a small pile of wood which is believed to have been left burning having been a bonfire the previous night. Firefighters used one hose reel jet to put out the fire.
