Wilmslow athlete runs into record book for second time

A multi-marathon runner from Wilmslow has smashed her second world record.

On Thursday, 7th September, Amy Hughes, 28, broke the current record for the most amount of miles on a treadmill in 7 days which previously stood at 517 miles.

She broke the world record at 8.15am at The Trafford Centre and went on to run up a further three miles to set a new world record of 520 miles just before 9am.

Having been inundated with support and congratulations via social media Amy posted on Twitter:

"it was harder than I could have imagined!"

"I can't quite believe it! I did it! This is the most surreal feeling!Thank you all so much for all your support and love! It means so much x"

In 2014 Amy, who only started running 9 years ago, completed the mammoth challenge of running 53 marathons in 53 consecutive days in 53 different towns and cities around the UK which earned Amy her first Guinness World Record.

Since completing her first challenge, Amy's life has changed significantly. She has become an athlete for Dame Kelly Holmes trust, been recognised by Pride of Britain awards, named 27th top Britain by the Telegraph, won running moment of the year 2014 and won a rising star award for sport. She also has her own TV show due to air in September.

Amy was running last week to raise money for her charity The 53 Foundations which she set up to help people with disabilities become active.
