An amateur chef from Wilmslow has triumphed in a brand new BBC One daytime series hosted by Sheree Murphy.

Eugene Rangayah, 43 appeared in yesterday's episode of Yes Chef and having won his heat he will be back on the screen on Friday, 16th September, to compete in this week's final.

Yes Chef features 16 chefs, all of whom have Michelin stars, who mentor amateur home cooks who battle it out in the kitchen.

The next stage for the IT Consultant who started cooking in his teens, involves a challenge set by Aiden Byrne, owner of The Church Green in Lymme who at 22 was the youngest chef to win a Michelin star.

The father of two from Queens Road, will be judged and scored by three other chefs who appeared in this week's episodes. The final challenge is a team effort with Aiden and Eugene producing two dishes based on two secret ingredients which are revealed just before the challenge by three-star Michelin chef Pierre Koffman.

Eugene explained "We then have 5 minutes to discuss and the first 15 minutes is allocated to the chef and 45 minutes to the cooks and then the chefs come in at the last 2 minutes to plate and serve. This round is judged and scored by Pierre Koffman."

Speaking about winning the heat, Eugene told wilmslow.co.uk "I was up against tough competition, in all the rounds! There were very delicious dishes presented by all the cooks on the day.

"It was a fantastic feeling to be selected by Aiden and I hope that I have done my children, family and friends proud!"

He added "I must say though that winning is not everything and I took so much from that day alone that will last me a lifetime!"

Yes Chef is shown on BBC One at 3.45pm. The heat featuring Eugene Rangayah can be viewed on BBC iPlayer and he can be seen competing in this week's final on Friday, 16th September.
