Distinguished musicians Martyn Shaw and Brenda Blewett will launch their new partnership on Sunday, 17th July, with an afternoon recital of colourful music for flute and piano as part of the Summer Serenade series at St Bartholomew's Church.
The duo's shared interest in authentic historical performance has led to this new partnership, adding to their already busy musical schedules.
Martyn works with leading ensembles including English Touring Opera, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, London Handel Orchestra, Armonico Consort, English Scholars and Welsh Baroque, as well as teaching at Chetham's School of Music and Leeds College of Music.
Whilst Brenda combines a concert career with her position as Joint Head of Accompaniment at Chetham's School of Music where she has collaborated in masterclasses with eminent musicians such as Stephen Isserlis, Yo-Yo Ma, Ralph Kirshbaum, Thomas Riebl and James Campbell.
Brenda has a great passion for working with young people - nurturing and helping them to develop as performers and musicians, and accompanies frequently in national and international competitions, notably the BBC Young Musician of the Year, Yehudi Menuhin Competition and the Sibelius Violin Competition in Helsinki.
St Bart's Director of Music, Philip Underwood, said "We are delighted that Martyn and Brenda have chosen St Bart's, which will be a perfect venue for them to launch their new musical venture.
"The programme will feature expressive works from the nineteenth century, including Schubert's Lieder arranged by the grandfather of the flute, Theobold Boehm, and Martyn will perform on an original nineteenth-century flute dating from 1839."
As usual, the recital on 17th July begins at 3pm and will be followed by afternoon tea. There is no admission charge but a collection will be taken after each recital with all proceeds going to the 'Oscar the Organ' Appeal.
