Outdoor cinema proves a big hit

Cinema 2016

There was lots of free entertainment for people of all ages in Wilmslow this weekend, which kicked off with the Cinema on the Carrs on Saturday evening.

Organised and funded by the Town Council, Wilmslow's second outdoor cinema event proved even more popular than last year.

Fortunately the rain held off and the 1978 movie 'Grease' appeared a great hit with the crowds, judging by the numbers that ran to claim their pitch as soon as the gates opened at 6pm.

By the time the movie began at 7.45pm a crowd of 1500 had assembled, many of whom had taken advantage of the cinema themed food and drink court.

Martin Watkins, Chairman of Wilmslow Town Council said "The feedback from people leaving the site was hugely positive and I am delighted by the numbers of family groups who attended, the event appeared to appeal to all generations. The singing and dancing in the crowd made for a party atmosphere and I am delighted that the Town Council has made such an event possible. A big thank you to the volunteers that contributed to a great evening."

A collection by Dean Row Guides, who had helped on the evening, generated £450 for Children in Need at the exit gates.

Vanessa posted on Facebook "Thank you for a fantastic evening, can't think of anything you could improve on!".

Whilst Joanne wrote "Such a great night with a fantastic atmosphere! This is the 1st one I have been to and I can honestly say I could not fault one single thing! The people who volunteer to do this deserve a massive thank you!! Film choice was a massive hit for us ( both parent & kids) and all the kids laughing and playing together in a safe environment was a joy."

Andrea added "Had a brilliant night. Just as good as last year. Atmosphere was great. Bring on next year. Well done to the organisers for a brilliant night."
