New technology to help tackle speeding

Cheshire Constabulary has invested in 16 state-of-the-art speed enforcement devices which are some of the most advanced compact all-in-one digital video cameras.

The cameras, which has an in-built laser measures speed as well as calculating traveling time and distance between two following vehicles. It also produces videos and still images for evidential purposes.

Police officers, PCSOs and the Special Constabulary officers are being trained in the use of the devices to proactively tackle speeding.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Roberts said: "The rules of the road are there for a reason and this new piece of kit will help us to enhance the work officers do to reinforce speed limits within the county and reinforce our commitment to making Cheshire's roads safer."

Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer said: "The public often tell me that road safety and speeding is a priority for them and I have made it one of my priorities.

"The new device is a real benefit to tackling those who choose to flout the law when it comes to speeding. Speed limits are there for a very good reason, they are to help you and other road users get from 'a to b' safely.

"These cameras will form another part of our armoury in tackling those who make our roads dangerous - be it through drink or drugs, using mobile phones or driving above the lawful speed limits."

So that will be 16 plod stood by the side of the road then!!! "Road safety and speeding are a priority" I'll stick to terrorists, illegal immigrants, murderers, smack heads robbing houses, muggers etc. as my priorities.

Perhaps they can also tackle the cars parked on double yellow lines at the same time.

What nonsense and selfish comments above! More people are killed or injured in road accidents than murders. These policemen need to be there because of such poor and selfish driving. More power to them.

Oh dear Bob. Reread the article and your comment. Maybe if we had plod to spare one could justify the exercise.

Heroes? I think not. Get back to pounding the pavements, instead of flashing your cash cows.

Surely, is these times, when Cheshire Police are shouting and screaming about budget cuts and lack of officers, they should be concentrating on 'Serious Crimes' Admittedly, there are those (I would estimate less than 5%) drivers whom do speed, and park illegaly. However, what about the SERIOUS crimes that are not resolved as a result of the lack of man power constantly claimed?

Get burgled, call Plod, and you get a crime number !!!!

Car damaged or broken into, call Plod and get a crime number !!!!

Get assaulted, call Plod.... 'Well unless you can actually prove who did it, we cannot act' !!!!

I can testify, personally, to Officers breaking a Crown Court Judges orders, you report it, Plod decides we will not prosecute our own ????? HELLO !!!! (1 Law for Mr civilian, However, Plod has its own law)

About time Plod WOKE UP to the reality of their own gross failures in the first place.

What the H*LL happened to 'Real, and Proper Coppers'?

The day after I read this article, our neighbours, a hard working young couple, with two small children, had their house broken into, and their two cars were stolen. The public are screaming for protection against these vile crimes such as Mr Worthington in this column describes, which leave ordinary people bereft. The call for officers on the beat is universal, but mostly rejected. I have been a victim of crime, and robbed, and attacked, and nobody caught.
Maybe those in "authority" who issue the orders will one day understand, why the public have become so cynical when 16 officers with 16 new cameras around the county can't fail to get "results" this way, yet vicious, premeditated, sickening crimes against hard working people, like these robberies, continue with such minor catch rates.

And do you know what the ironic thing is Chris, these poor people will probably get a letter in the post in a few weeks telling them they have got points and a nice little fine, because plod got the thieves speeding away with their fancy new guns!! That's how pathetic all this is.
