Expect delays on Altrincham Road tomorrow

roadclosed

A section of Altrincham Road will be closed for short periods throughout the day tomorrow to enable a production company to carry out some filming.

It is anticipated that the work will take place between 9.30am and 3pm on Wednesday, 16th December, and affect the section between the Altrincham Road roundabout to the junction with Mill Lane.

A spokesperson for Cheshire East Council said "This will only affect the northbound carriageway for approximately 2 minutes at any one time throughout the day. These works will not prevent the passage of vehicles towards Manchester, however please still expect some disruption and short delays throughout the day."

I'm confused!

Reason 1
"the section between the Altrincham Road roundabout to the junction with Mill Lane."

There is no junction with Altrincham Road and Mill Lane.

Reason 2
"This will only affect the northbound carriageway for approximately 2 minutes at any one time throughout the day. These works will not prevent the passage of vehicles towards Manchester,

There isn't a Northbound carriage way. It's and east/ west road and the passage of vehicles isn't towards Manchester.

Can somebody help and tell me what road the "spokesman for Cheshire East" was actually talking about?

Altrincham Road becomes Wilmslow Road. This happens at a roundabout - presumably the Altrincham Road roundabout. From Wilmslow Road there is a junction with Mill Lane, and at this point the road is north/south rather than east/west.

The Altrincham Road roundabout is likely to be the roundabout by what used to be the Moat House - now the Britannia Airport Inn. Mill Lane is the road leading off to Ashley. Putting 2+2 together suggests they were actually using the Airport tunnels northbound carriageway (which is more or less north-south at that point).

Thank you Jon & Richard. Makes more sense now.

I put Mill Lane Wilmslow into Google and came out with Mill Lane, SK9 7TY. (i.e. the road on which the David Lewis Centre is on in Great Warford.

The problem is that Mill Lane of Altrincham Road before near the Airport tunnels as you are both describing is actually not in Cheshire East Councils Boundary but in the Manchester City Council Boundary!!!!!!!

Hence the confusion on my part.
