Cricket: Lindow claim a resounding win

A dominant display from Lindow thrilled the 100 spectators who came to watch two teams at opposite ends of the table do battle.

Lindow lost the toss and bowled first on a flat track in glorious sunshine.

The new ball was handed to 14-year-old prodigy Tom Jones who bowled an impeccable spell to finish with figures of 0-29 from six overs and laid down a marker as the club's strike bowler of the future.

He was ably supported by threatening spells from captain Ben Tyler and Aussie Brady Yates as Malpas capitulated.

After finding themselves 70-0, the middle and lower order all surrendered their wickets cheaply to leave Lindow, who took a series of fine catches, chasing 137 for victory.

In reply, Chris Taylor and Rocker Robinson made a flying start, dominating what was a weak bowling attack.

Balls relentlessly crashed into the boundary and it was left to Arpan Desal and Ian Park to score the last few runs needed to claim a resounding win.

Lindow will face a tougher test at the weekend when they face top of the table Barrow in what could be a season-defining encounter.

Lindow 2nd XI returned to winning ways and put themselves right back into title winning contention by comprehensively beating bottom of the table Woodford on Saturday.

After losing the toss Lindow found themselves in the field but soon on top as a tight opening spell from Hassan Mahmood restricted Woodford's run rate. Wickets fell with regularity, Mahmood and leg spinner Matt Ramsden claiming two apiece and captain Rowan Day taking four for 18.

Set a target of 145 for victory, Lindow were never troubled in their run chase. Sam Walker, playing as a batsman for the 2nd XI as opposed to opening the bowling for the 1st XI due to injury, enjoyed his time at the crease hitting a chanceless 68 not out to guide Lindow home with plenty of overs to spare.
