Scholars to perform final Summer Serenade of the series

Isabel Paterson

The final recital of the Sunday afternoon Summer Serenade Series takes place at St Bartholomew's Church this Sunday, 26th July.

Choral scholar Isabel, a student at Alderley Edge Girls School, will perform some of her favourite solos, ranging from Faure to Gershwin, accompanied by fellow scholar George Herbert on the piano.

In the last year, St Bart's has established scholarships for young musicians to enable them to develop their love of music, reviving the historic tradition of the church as a centre of musical education. Seventeen year-old singer Isabel Paterson is the first choral scholar to benefit from such patronage and has been given opportunities to sing magnificent solos in church throughout the year whilst playing a key role in the church's robed choir and continuing her individual vocal tuition. George Herbert, aged 14, was awarded the first organ scholarship, which has funded organ lessons for him with the organist of Manchester Cathedral, Christopher Stokes.

As well as bringing musical riches to Wilmslow, the Summer Serenades have raised well over £2,000 for the church's Organ Restoration Appeal.

The recital on Sunday, 26th July, begins at 3pm and will be followed by afternoon tea. Admission is free, with a retiring collection for the Organ Restoration Fund.
