Park gets new games arena

A new Multi Use Games Arena (MUGA) has been installed in Lacey Green Park which includes a football goal mouth, basketball ring, mini skate park, new benches and a bin.

The Friends of Lacey Green Park are delighted to announce that work on the MUGA is very nearly complete, they are now just waiting for the line markings to be painted and the grass seed to take root around the new development.

The project was funded by WREN, which a not-for-profit business that helps benefit the lives of people who live close to landfill sites by awarding grants for community, conservation and heritage projects.

Chairman of the Friends Group, Stuart Ogden said "The MUGA has been packed with kids playing ball games and on scooters and skateboards since the contractors finished work on Friday afternoon.

"Work on the new children's play park begins around 6th July to be completed by 21st July approximately which will cater for toddlers through to juniors and their families. There has been a lot of investment both time and money to bring these developments to fruition for the local youngsters, we now hope they enjoy the park and look after it and each other."

The Friends Group is now on the look out for Lacey Green's budding Picasso or Banksy to create their masterpiece on the Graffiti Wall, which runs down one side of the MUGA. If you're interested, get in touch via email with some initial ideas and they will provide more details.

The Friends of Lacey Green Park consists of a handful of Lacey Green residents who care about the park and are working with Cheshire East to improve the facilities for the community to enjoy for years to come.

I'm sad to say this is far from what we expected !. Comparing this to all the other local parks it is a massive let down . The plans show a skate park and a multi sports area not a 6ft section of concrete to kick a ball in and a few lumps to skate on . All the other parks have a great skate park and multi sports area so what made us so different ? ?

No surprises that this council cheaps out when it comes to play grounds. They did the same on the Carrs.

Oliver, the funding for this did not come from the Council, it came from WREN as stated in the article and not from the public purse at all.

Previously this part of land was full of litter, broken glass and dog mess so surely this is a vast improvement and the kids have been playing on it since it opened.

The council will be funding the next phase of the play park improvements with Section 106 money which we have accessed through yet another very lengthy process and two years of hard work by a small group of volunteers.

The MUGA is not 100% complete as line markings will be added once the tarmac has completely settled in a few weeks. Then there is currently a discussion about turfing the areas around the MUGA and start of BMX track to improve the overall look and finish.

The MUGA has been well used since it's opened and it's a 100% improvement on what was there previously. Seeing the kids on there every day playing together is testament enough that it's being appreciated by some.

Friends of Lacey Green Park are passionate about the park and making improvements by working hard to pull agencies together to support such developments to benefit the Lacey Green Community. We're always looking for more volunteers to get involved so if you and Natalie would like to have more say in what happens in the park please do get in touch via .

Carli, no surprise that Cheshire East have funded the improvement. Play parks are not a priority for Cheshire East. Its all piecemeal with no vision. You just have to look at our parks and compare them to Stockport or Manchester's provision. The Carrs is OK for the very young but nothing challenging for pre-teens and teenagers. Cheap.

I agree with Natalie and compared to other parks on council estates out of the Wilmslow area it's a bit small, and considering it should of been finished in time for the six week holidays it's far from done.. I walked there today to see, it's a bit of a joke that the schools have been broken up nearly a week!!! Come on Lacey green children are waiting to play..
