Designer opens interiors emporium

A new interiors shop has opened on Chapel Lane offering a really eclectic mix of products.

Lorna Lucas, 46, who is originally from Handforth and now lives in Whitefield, Manchester, has opened her pop-up shop Hound and Hart at 47 Chapel Lane, which was previously occupied by a wool shop.

Having graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with first class honours in Three Dimensional Design, Lorna has been producing her own furniture designs, up-cycled furniture and custom printed textiles.

Speaking about her latest independent venture, Lorna said "An 'emporium' is probably the best word to describe this shop, an eclectic mix of bespoke and vintage accessories for the home, all unique and truly individual, not your usual high street shop with mass produced stock. This is true independent business filled with individual flair and design."

As the name 'Hound and Hart' suggests, Lorna has a passion for animals and this is reflected in her design and print work. She offers a custom service whereby she can print your pet onto anything from a greetings card to a one-off cushion or canvass. She is setting up a dog photo studio so you can bring along your dog have photos taken and then choose the design you want to be on a cushion or in a picture frame.

Manchester mosaic artist Mark Kennedy, famed for his Afflecks Palace mosaics, also displays his work at Hound and Hart, along with other selected local artists.

Lorna added "Hound and Hart is truly a work in progress and the next project being to bring the garden back to glory for customers to enjoy, watch this space.

"The family are looking to extend the business into a small tea room later this year and all dogs and their owners are welcome - as long as their owners behave!"

The owners of 47 and 49 Chapel Lane, a semi-detached building, have submitted a planning application to make internal alterations to the ground floor to enable them to create a coffee shop at 49 Chapel Lane, - the existing hypnotherapists studio would then be relocated to the rear single storey section of the property.

The scheme includes providing toilet facilities to the rear of 47 Chapel Lane, to serve the coffee shop, and a new kitchen is to be located to the rear room of No. 49.

The planning application states "Generally the coffee shop is to provide hot and cold beverages and small snacks. It is intended to provide further business and employment to the Chapel Lane community as presently this type of facility does not exist in the area."

Plans can be viewed on the Cheshire East website by searching for planning reference 15/1614M. The last date for submitting comments is 8th May and a decision is expected by 11th June.
