Wilmslow charity to dish up popular fundraiser

souperday

Wilmslow Wells for Africa will be holding their first Souperday of the year at Wilmslow Methodist Church Hall on Saturday 14th March.

The charity has been organising two souperdays each year since shortly after they were founded 30 years ago and these popular events have a solid band of supporters who always turn up to enjoy delicious soup and bread, both of which are homemade.

Helen Battilana, Chairman of Wilmslow Wells said "We moved the location of our regular Souperday fundraiser to central Wilmslow for the first time last March and also experimented with holding the event on a Saturday, rather than our customary Thursday. This proved very successful and we raised about £1500 on the day."

She added "We are delighted that members of Fulshaw Women's Institute are making cakes for us to sell this time, in addition to the fantastic display of home-made cakes from our regular supporters."

As usual, there will be four different flavours of soup available, all of which will be vegetarian. These will be accompanied by a selection of homemade breads. There will also be home produce for sale and a good-as-new stall.

The Souperday will take place from 11am and 2pm at Wilmslow Methodist Church Hall on Water Lane, free parking is available behind the hall. Admission is £4 including soup and bread, plus a hot drink.

The charity has raised about £975,000 since they were formed in 1984 and they hope that their March Souperday will help them along the way to reaching their target of one million pounds by the end of the year!

Wilmslow Wells for Africa is a direct action charity which aims to improve life in drought-stricken areas of Africa by providing wells, pumps, dams and water collection equipment. The money they have raised to date has enabled Wilmslow Wells to complete 186 projects to supply clean water sources.

They keep administration costs to a minimum so that 99.2% of everything they raise is spent directly on projects to provide clean water, made possible because their organisation operates entirely on voluntary effort.
