A community hub on the Lacey Green estate is celebrating the completion of their newly refurbished kitchen area which will enable them to open the facility up to a much wider audience.

Cheshire East Councillor, Don Stockton met with representatives of Lacey Green Community Hub management committee on Thursday, 7th August, to celebrate the completion of the works at Lacey Green Pavilion, which were supported by a £13,400 grant from the Council.

Presenting the cheque, Cheshire East Councillor Don Stockton, said "As a 'Residents First Council', Cheshire East is very pleased to present this cheque to support the Lacey Green Pavilion as part of our ongoing process to develop community hubs.

"I want to recognise the work of the local management committee, as well as those from the Town Council and the officers of Cheshire East who have all contributed to putting this together.

"When I think back to three years ago when I first saw this building, with all the overgrown grass outside and the mess it was inside – this is such a tremendous achievement, it is amazing what can be achieved when local people set their minds to it.

"The funding that Cheshire East Council has provided to update the kitchen and paint the main hall will complement the work which has already been done, and will give members of the community a fantastic facility to access a whole range of different services. I would like to congratulate the management committee on what they have achieved so far and wish them every success moving forward."

Accepting the cheque on behalf of the committee, Bev Statom-Barnett, Project Manager and Chair of the Lacey Green Community Hub said "We are extremely grateful for this grant. It has enabled us to install a completely new kitchen area, and this will have a huge effect on the way we can use the building. For example, for some time now, we've wanted to open a luncheon club, but it simply wasn't possible with our old facilities.

"Now we can go ahead with this, and we already have a waiting list of people who want to come - so hopefully in September we will be up and running and we will be cooking in our new kitchen. It's absolutely fantastic. I would like to thank the councillors who helped and supported us along the way; we have had some great support from Cheshire East."

Wilmslow Town Councillor Ellie Brooks added "I just think that with its new kitchen facilities, this is now a marvellous resource which will be used by so many different groups to come and have their meetings, events and functions - suitable for so many things.

"We thank everyone involved in the success of this project so far, and look forward to a positive future."

The works to the kitchen will enable this local facility, which has been open for the last 20 years, to hold healthy eating sessions with parent and toddler groups and provide tuck shop facilities for a youth club as well as run an over 60's lunch club.
