Emergency closures of Station Road

As a result of works to extend the platform at Wilmslow Station there will be emergency overnight closures to Station Road this week.

Network Rail require these emergency closures, commencing this evening at 10pm, in order to stabilise a retaining wall adjacent to the railway bridge that is in danger of slipping onto the public highway.

An emergency meeting was held this afternoon with their contractor Amey to establish the nature of the problem and the following programme and road closures have been agreed to enable the wall to be made safe.

Station Road will be closed this evening, Tuesday 21st June, at 10pm so works can be carried out to take earth loading off the wall and drill anchorage holes. The road will be reopened at 6am.

On Wednesday, 22nd June, Station Road will again be closed from 10pm to 6am to carry out drilling and the insertion of ground anchorage, then on Thursday, June 23rd, between 11pm and 5am the road will be closed so grout can be inserted to the rear of the wall.

On Friday, June 24th, Station Road will be closed from 12.30am until 7am to secure the tensioning plate and fully stabilise the wall.

These closures are in addition to the previously announced series of planned overnight closures at weekends which were due to terminate this Sunday, June 26th at 9am.

In order for the works to be completed to programme Amy have requested additional weekend closures from 9pm until 9am on the 2nd, 9th and 16th of July.

The alternative route for traffic during these closures will be via the A538 Manchester Road, A538 Mill Street, A34 Wilmslow By Pass, A538 Prestbury Road, A5102 Hough Lane and Macclesfield Road and vice versa.
