Clean up for town centre benches

The first batch of benches in the town centre have now been refurbished.

Wilmslow Town Council decided to embark on a programme of refurbishing benches in April, tackling the worst ones first, which were identified as being located in Bank Square and Grove Street.

They arranged for nine benches in these areas to be refurbished along with two near Hooper's and Sainsbury's which only required minor works.

One of the benches was partly funded from the £169 Wilmslow Town Council received from the Waitrose Community Matters Scheme and the total cost for the refurbishment was £1048.

A plaque will be added to each of the repaired benches, with the exception of the one paid for with the contribution from Waitrose, which will read "Bench refurbished by Wilmslow Town Council."

As reported earlier this month, the Rotary Club of Wilmslow Dean has supported this initiative by refurbishing two benches on Church Street which they originally presented to the town in 1988.

Wilmslow Town Council has tried to prioritise for phase one, but will be considering what further action may be needed with other street furniture.
