Cooking the books

Wednesday, 16th Mar, 2016 11:00am til 12:30pm

To celebrate Wilmslow Food and Drink Week the team at Cheshire Archives will be giving an historical culinary talk.

From quaking puddings and drunken loaves to the treatment of fiery noses and the plague, they will take you on a culinary adventure through history! You will be introduced to recipes and remedies from Tudor times through to the fashionable 50-dish dinner tables of the 18th century.

Discover potatoes with John Gerard in his Herbal, how to make 'flummery' and 'wiggs' according to Elizabeth Raffald, what was eaten and used to treat illness in the great Cheshire households.

This talk will give you a flavour of what foodie enthusiasts can find in the archives, and there will be an authentic dish to taste from one of the recipe books.

Wilmslow Library 11:00am – 12:30 pm. Refreshments will be provided.

Free event though donations are welcome.

Please telephone Wilmslow Library at 01625 374060 to book a place.
