Lindow Singers to perform 50th celebration concert

The Lindow Singers are holding the final concert of their 50th anniversary year on Saturday 21st June to demonstrate something from each of the decades it has been performing.

In the first few years, the choir sang such things as madrigals – written in the 1600s. Then it sang 4 part adaptations of folk music. As the choir grew, not much could beat some of the religious music it has tried, like the Faure Requiem and even the African Sanctus. This last year, the choir, with the help of Manchester Airport Community Trust Fund, even managed to commission music about Wilmslow from Sasha Johnson Manning.

So for the final concert you can expect something of the folk, religious, madrigal and up to date music, with Sasha Johnson Manning herself coming along to sing too. The compere, complete with stories to entertain, will be our one remaining original member, Roy Vickery. As an extra bonus, strawberries and cream and wine will be available too.

Andrew Backhouse, Chair of Lindow Singers said "It's really fun to sing – it lifts the spirits, and we hope others will come and join us celebrate our 50th year of singing in Wilmslow."

The celebration concert, with strawberries and cream and wine, will take place at Wilmslow High School on Saturday June 21st, starting at 7:30 pm.

Tickets cost £10, concessions £9 and students £2.
