Prolific burglar caught thanks to vigilant residents

Thanks to the help of local residents a prolific burglar was caught in the area on Wednesday, 27th May.

A member of the public alerted the police to a male acting suspiciously in the Kings Road area of Wilmslow at 11am on Wednesday, where an attempted break-in was discovered.

A man fitting a similar description - white, 5ft 11 to 6ft, smartly dressed and wearing a hi-vis jacket - was then reported knocking on doors in the Pownall Court area.

A further report was received from Lavinia Court on Knutsford Road, Alderley Edge where a male was trying doors. There was a bit of a scuffle at one property where the occupant was in and the man ran off.

An hour and a half later reports of a man acting suspiciously in Knutsford were received. Again he was attempting to distract residents. He was carrying a cloth and when approached he offered to clean windows.

Two attempted burglaries were later discovered on Gaskell Avenue in Knutsford, though the male did not manage to gain entry to any properties.

The 28-year-old man from the Baguley area of Manchester was eventually tracked down leaving Knutsford on the A556 in a Vauxhall Tigra.

He has been charged with four attempted burglaries and is currently on remand in prison.

A spokesperson from the CID said "A significant amount of property was found in the vehicle when he was stopped, which we believe is stolen. There was jewellery of a sentimental type and quite a number of the items have not been identified. We are in the process of getting a bulletin and some photos together.

"His method of entry seems to be to sneak in and get this type of jewellery so people might not be aware that he has entered their property."
