Tile showroom relocating out of town

Cheshire Tile and Bathroom Studio will be closing their Wilmslow showroom in a couple of weeks and relocating to the Stanley Green Trading Estate.

Julian Lloyd and Brad Crosthwaite opened Cheshire Tile Studio in Handforth in May 2006, having spent 10 years working together in the tile industry for a national chain.

After 5 years, the two friends relocated to a bigger showroom on Alderley Road but they have now decided to close this and move the business to premises with an onsite warehouse on the trading estate.

Speaking about the move Brad Crosthwaite explained "The main reason for moving is that the business rates changed dramatically. After a year our rates increased by 100%! That is £22,000 more on our operating costs each year, which required a great deal of increased sales for a small business to survive.

"In addition our footfall was affected by building work being carried out on both buildings either side of the showroom over the past 12 months and whilst the hoardings were in place its being almost impossible for customers to see the showroom when driving past.

"We have also found a unit on Stanley Green Trading Estate opposite Topps Tiles where we have the opportunity to combine our warehouse as well as a showroom on one site, thereby further reducing our overheads and increasing efficiency. The new unit will not only house our warehouse but will also give us a larger showroom than Wilmslow with an immense tile collection, natural stone studio and more than 30 full bathroom displays over two floors. It will be more accessible too with its position being on a predominantly home furnishing retail park. It also boasts a large car park infront."

The Alderley Road showroom will close on Wednesday 28th May and the new premises will open on Monday 2nd June.

What a shame, another empty unit. Entirely understandable though. Good luck with the business.

Makes sense. Having your fee's double like that is a bit of a joke, and that entire strip up to Emerson court/Lloyds has looked like a building site for months.

May have looked like a building site but the whole stretch now looks extremely impressive and must be the prime site in Wilmslow

I found it rather ironic when a tile retailer opened up here- the tiles outside are an absolute nightmare when wet (nothing to do with the tile company, they were installed previously by the Landlord who, presumably, has adequate Public Liability Insurance). Unfortunately the public part of the pavement nearby is almost totally blocked by a bus stop, road sign supports and lamp-posts.
