Art trail to bring splash of colour to Wilmslow

A group of local professional artists and crafts people have come together to organise Wilmslow's first Art Trail.

So far over 20 artists have expressed an interest in taking part in the new event which will see work from professional painters, print makers, furniture makers and textile artists displayed in a variety of locations across the town centre.

Furniture maker Garry Olson explained "We suggested this event as we felt Wilmslow was ripe to support an art trail which is a concept that has been very successful in other towns. It is another initiative that will stimulate economic activity in the town and add to a sense of community that has been generated by such events as the Artisan Market, the Scarecrow Festival, Wilmslow Show, the Gingerbread Trail, the Motor Show and the work of Incredible Edible."

The idea is to create a walking, or cycling at most, trail around the town - focussing mainly on the town centre.

The venues could be church halls, private galleries or studios but organisers are also looking for businesses, such as shops, cafes or restaurants, who might have space to show the work of artists and volunteer their premises as a temporary gallery.

Garry added "So far we have had a good response from prospective venues. They include existing studios like my own in Stoney Lane as well as St Bartholomew's Parish Church, Wilmslow Methodist Church, Revolution Bar, Tru Kitchen showroom, Hawthorns Deli, The Goal Post, The Stolen Lamb restaurant and Cook and Baker, cafe. We are looking for more and we are hoping that the artists and venues will strike up relationships that will benefit both parties."

The Wilmslow Art Trail is proposed to take place on the 20th and 21st September, which is an Artisan Market weekend.
