With the resurgence of make, mend and do skills hitting Britain, the Wilmslow & Alderley Edge Horticultural and Rose Society have been making plans to encourage new people to share their creations and enter them into their show.

Each summer they host an horticultural and craft show, inside the main marquee at the Wilmslow Show. The society organises the competitions, where entries in categories such as baking, sewing and grow-your-own are judged against one another with trophies and prize money to be won.

The society recently held their 99th AGM to discuss the latest updates to their exhibit list with the aim of providing easy access for newcomers.

Mr Peter Robinson, the society chairman, explained "We are very keen to attract new entrants to the show. We are fortunate to have the history that we do, in days gone by, we even had Percy Thrower attend an event, and now it's time to focus on the future."

The Horticultural Society attracts members from the Wilmslow Guild Art Group, Incredible Edible and the Macclesfield & Cheshire East branch of the Cactus and Succulent Society but the competitions are open for everybody to enter.

Mr Frank McCarthy, show organiser, said "It's almost time for people to begin planning what to enter this summer. The new competitions list is already on the Wilmslow Show website, so please do take a look at it."
