New parking restrictions for Lacey Green and Handforth

Cheshire East Council is introducing some new parking restrictions in the Lacey Green area and Handforth.

An Order will prohibit vehicles from parking on Lacey Avenue within 10 metres of its junction with Lacey Green, on both sides of the road, at all times and on all days.

Additionally parking on Lacey Green will be forbidden within 10 metres of its junction with Lacey Avenue on the south-eastern side.

A spokesperson from Cheshire East Council said "Cars and light vans regularly park around the junction of Lacey Green and Lacey Avenue and the issues that have been reported relate to congestion and obstruction caused by these vehicles. Although commuter parking is a particular problem obstructive parking does occur outside the working day.

"It is therefore deemed necessary in the interests of highway safety to introduce a prohibition of waiting restriction on protecting the junction to alleviate the problems and keep the area clear of parked vehicles."

In Handforth an Order will prohibit vehicles from parking on sections of Church Road, Crossfield Road and Old Road - as shown on the map above.

The Orders will come into effect on 19th May 2014.

Hmm, let's see what effect this has on parking spaces available for Handforth shoppers. My sense is that these roads are used by train commuters, as the same vehicles seem to be there all day

Why must the Council keep penalising the local council tax payers at the expense of the "all day Parker's". Why not put a 1 hour parking restriction to allow us to access the Health Centre, shops, library and church and generate revenue from the out of of towners who contribute nothing and park all day for free.

I think the issue around Church Road is more one of vehicles being parked half on the pavements with seeming impunity thereby blocking the pavement to pedestrians - especially those with buggies and wheelchairs. Sometimes vehicles park on both sides of Church Road which is narrow - causing an obstruction. This is a walking route to two primary schools and a pre-school so it needs to be made safer. A time limit on parking and enforcement measures taken against those obstructing the pavement (or overstaying) would seem a sensible approach.
