Plans for 1920s American theme bar

A planning application has been submitted to turn a former chocolate shop into a themed bar with music.

A Wilmslow resident has submitted plans for a 1920s American theme bar at 4-6 Alderley Road, which has been vacant since the closure of Simon Dunn Chocolatier in July 2013.

The scheme would see the ground floor converted into offices, toilets and storage whilst the first floor would be an open plan bar area with seating.

Mr Danny Midgelow, of Lacey Green plans to open a New York City 1920s style "speakeasy bar and club" which, to start with, will be open from approximately 5pm to 1am on Wednesdays, 2am on Thursdays and 3am on Fridays and Saturdays.

He intends to create an "American 1920s, Gatsby-style vibe" which will include all the female staff wearing flapper style dresses and the men wearing waistcoats.

On the ground floor there will be a beauty salon called Jane Elizabeth Beauty Brow Bar which will be open from 9am to 8pm Tuesdays to Saturdays.

No significant external changes are planned and internally the unit will be fitted out by a specialist supplier of the themed brand.

Danny Midgelow, 27, is a Director of Macclesfield-based Chestiki Ltd which was set up in August 2013.

Chestiki Ltd was granted a late licence for 4-6 Alderley Road in October 2013, which at the time was to enable them to open 'The Tiki Bar', described as a "fun Polynesian style bar".

The plans can be viewed on the Cheshire East website by searching for planning reference 14/0045M. The last date for submitting comments is 22nd February and a decision is expected by 7th March.

Being a manager at Revolution across the road, this is exactly what Wilmslow needs. Bringing more people to the area, especially at the weekend will only make Wilmslow a better place to eat, drink and have a great time. I am looking forward to what this will do for the town and how Danny will execute it.

I like the idea, but will you keep our residential streets free of litter, cigarettes ends, chewing gums and glass bottles . Late night take away packagings will be left all over and council will not help , but will you employ staff to clean up , don't mind if they dress up in their waist coats or flapper dresses. That would be cool!
If you promise to clean and keep our town free of chewing gums great idea
Revolution just look the area outside your front door and what are you doing about this.

The description of what we plan to do isn't quite correct, we will be open during the day also as a traditional 1920s themed tea rooms. A better description is below.

A 1920s style “Speakeasy Bar and Tea Rooms”. The menu will include Tea Rooms afternoon tea, sandwiches and large cake selections. Into the evening Cocktails are set to be a highlight with playful drinks served with a candyfloss garnish and the like, while the vibe is American 1920s, Gatsby-style chic. At the weekend, this unique and sort after atmosphere will continue through until 3am. All staff will be in flapper dresses and the guys in waistcoats to make it feel as though you are stepping back in time. The service will always be of the highest standard, and the establishment targeted toward the more sophisticated cliental of all ages. 21s, 23s or 25s in the evenings is yet to be decided.

We are determined to be a proud edition to Wilmslow town, and can ensure no public nuisance what so ever, certainly not outside on the street. We look to bring something different, quirky and fun into the town for all ages, nothing of which should be negative.

The 1920s was arguably the coolest era in history, this is why some of the best bars in NYC, London and many other cities are using this theme, especially now with the recent release of The Great Gatsby, we are bang on trend.

We wish for everyone to remain positive, and excited about the prospect of this establishment, the support of the community would be hugely appreciated.

Thank you.

Danny.

Wilmslow is sadly lacking good venues for the evening and I welcome the addition of a tea room / themed cocktail bar to our town. Since the sad closure of The Wilmslow Wine Bar, there really is no suitable venue to take house guests to anymore and we frequently end up travelling to Knutsford or Alderley in search of a place where we can drink, eat and socialise as '40 - somethingers'.
The opening of a new bar in Wilmslow at least means we can support the retailers on our own high street and halt the self fulfilling prophecy of 'Wilmslow turning Into a ghost town' which is something none of us want to see.

Come on town planners, make the right decision and support the Speakeasy Bar in Wilmslow.
