As a result of complaints from local residents about speeding on Morley Green Road, Wilmslow Neighbourhood Police Team have been focusing on this area to see what they could do about the issue.

Nearly 30 residents of Morley Green Road highlighted the problem of excessive speeding in the area when they attended a Wilmslow Focus Group Meeting early last year.

Since then the police have carried out speed enforcement on more than 20 occasions which have resulted in over 30 tickets being issued and over 250 warning letters being sent out.

Wilmslow Local Area Partnership (LAP) also created a sub-group to look at speeding issues around Wilmslow and particularly Morley Green Road, which included representatives from Cheshire East Council, Wilmslow Town Council and the Police.

Sgt Andy Miller, who is involved in this sub-group said "By working with local residents, local councillors and Cheshire East Council we have managed to secure funding for two flashing speed indication / warning signs to be located at either end of Morley Green Road.

"Hopefully this should make it very clear to those using this road that they should stick to the 30mph speed limit and not put others in danger."

The SIDs will be purchased and installed before the end of March and will be permanent fixtures. Whilst they do not record any data the devices will flash and warn drivers of the speed limit - very similar, if not the same, as the ones on Knutsford Road, Chorley.

The speed along the road will be monitored over coming months to examine what effect the signs have.

If Knutsford Road is anything to go by, these will have no effect whatsoever. Unfortunately, too many people have no respect whatsoever for speed limits.

This morning (9th January) at about 09:25, I was about to cross the service road by Sainsburys when there was a roar of a high-powered engine and a Bentley car accelerated from the Coach & Four end of the service road and was doing, I estimate, about 50mph as it sped past me (so it was probably being driven flat out on this narrow service road, and I had to jump back behind the row of parked car to avoid being mown down).

I hope the inadequate idiot driving that car reads this! Or has it pointed out to him by his passenger or anyone who knows who it might have been. Sir, you have a problem!

With this sort of lunatic at large behind the wheel, I can't see a few speed indicators being of much use.
