Exercise your right to become a trustee

Having decided to create a charitable trust to take over the running of leisure services across the Borough, the Council is now looking for trustees (directors) to head it up.

The Council's leisure facilities are currently managed 'in-house' but in order to save money the running of fifteen leisure centres, including Wilmslow Leisure Centre, will be transferred to the new 'Everybody Sport & Recreation Trust' in early 2014.

The aim is also to improve services with a greater focus on improving the health and wellbeing of the young and vulnerable.

A total of 11 trustees will be appointed to the board and the deadline for applying is 12 noon on October 7th. It is hoped the board will be in place by Autumn 2013.

Trustees should demonstrate a high level of interest in sport, recreation and health and be able to attract inward investment and have the ability to work as part of a team.

Council leader Michael Jones, who has overseen the creation of this new sports delivery model, said: "This is a truly exciting time for the Council. The way we deliver services will mean that our communities will benefit from a much more inclusive leisure service.

"The newly appointed trustees should represent the views of residents and the business communities, so will need to be a people person with business acumen and links in the business and local community."

Cheshire East spends over £9 million a year on leisure services and currently employs 400 full time staff, who would be transferred to the trust.

The establishment of the trust to deliver leisure operations is expected to save the Council at least £700,000 a year through VAT and NNDR (business rates).

Could it be clarified which Council is referred to here (CEC or WTC) and what is meant by "Borough"?
I am assuming that this refers to eleven trustees who will carry the can when this scheme goes base over apex for the whole of Cheshire East, rather than just Wilmslow.

Could someone from CEC explain the calculations behind this statement "The establishment of the trust to deliver leisure operations is expected to save the Council at least £700,000 a year through VAT and NNDR (business rates)"?
It would be absolutely splendid if this turns out to plan but, what with Lyme Green and Bewilderwood, not to mention the £1m given for the Astra Zeneca science park and the £1m given to local developers recently, I'm not holding my breath.
