A Wilmslow based optician is asking children in the local area to help identify the owner of a giant pair of spectacle frames that have arrived outside of the practice.

Albert Road Opticians has recently unveiled a new garden sculpture and wants to use the new art to highlight the importance of regular eye examinations for children.

Local children are being encouraged to draw a picture of the owner of the giant spectacles and send them to the Wilmslow practice. The best entry will receive a free pair of high quality sunglasses.

Owner of Albert Road Opticians, Deepak Oberai, believes that raising awareness of harmful ultra-violet radiation and the importance of regular eye examinations will encourage children to better protect their vision during the summer holidays.

He said: "We've recently unveiled a new garden sculpture at our practice. It's a giant pair of spectacle frames and it is certain to turn heads.

"We want local children to get involved and draw us a picture of the giant that left his glasses in our front garden.

"By doing this, we want to encourage children to see the benefit of regular eye examinations; after all, even giants need their eyes testing too.

"The best drawing will receive a pair of high quality sunglasses, something that all school children should be wearing while they are out playing with friends during the summer holidays.

"We hope that this will show just how important it is for young children to protect their eyes against harmful ultra-violet radiation."

The new garden sculpture was unveiled at the Wilmslow practice on Thursday 25th July and has already proven to be quite popular with local residents.

Deepak added: "Everybody that has seen the new garden sculpture has had something to say about it and it's all been positive.

"This gave us a great incentive to use the sculpture to benefit the community. We thought long and hard about the ways that we could use it and felt that young children would find it particularly interesting.

"We decided to create a fantasy story around the sculpture that we hope will capture the imagination of local children."

Any local children that would like to enter the competition should deliver their drawings to the Albert Road practice. The winner of the drawing competition will be announced on 31st August 2013.
