Wilmslow Artisan Market returns to Grove Street this weekend with a special event to mark their second birthday.

Set up in 2011 to increase footfall for Wilmslow town centre, the very first market was held on the July 23rd 2011, with 52 artisan traders participating. Since then the event has grown to be one of the largest in the North of England and picked up some prestigious awards along the way.

Organiser Denise Valente said "It is a great privilege to deliver the Wilmslow Artisan Market, and we are absolutely delighted that over the last two years the Artisan has grown into such an incredible community event, which receives such dedicated support from the local people of Wilmslow and those further afield. We are always astounded how loyal our visitors are, even in rain, wind and hail stones. We are incredibly thankful for all this support, which completely exceeded our initial expectations.

"It has also been wonderful to be able to provide an opportunity to showcase local community projects at the Artisan such as Cycle Wilmslow, The Wilmslow Animal Sanctuary, Transition Wilmslow and Incredible Edible."

A full day of celebration is planned for Saturday, 20th July. In addition to a wide range of artisan traders (offering the finest local food, drink, art and craft) Loose Change Buskers will once again join the market. They will perform an open air concert on Bank Square from 10.30am, in aid of Cancer Research UK.

The Willow Quartet, a group of classically trained singers currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music, will be performing outside Barclays Bank. The group comprises of Emma Walton (Soprano), Penelope Cousland (Contralto), Stuart Overington (Tenor) and Wilmslow born Matthew Thistleton (Bass). The Willow Quartet sings music from a variety of styles and genres - ranging from madrigals to operatic quartets, modern musical theatre and pop.

Working with the Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival organisers, Wilmslow Rotary Club, they will also be featuring a number of this year's fabulous scarecrow creations on Bank Square, so that shoppers can get up close and enjoy them one last time.

Once again, Wilmslow Town Council will be manning a stall and will be available to answer questions and queries about local issues.

Denise Valente added "Seeing as it's our 2nd birthday we will also have some special treats in store for our visitors.

"We hope you can join us this Saturday 20th of July, Wilmslow Town Centre, 10-4pm."

Congratulations and well done. This is one of the best things to have happened to Wilmslow in the 22 years I have lived here.
