Superb creations for 2013 Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival

Scarecrows of all shapes and sizes have descended on the town for the fourth Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival.

112 straw creations, including 8 created by local schools, are on display around Wilmslow, bringing colour and fun during the seventeen day event.

They can be found hanging out on the streets, on display in shops windows, lurking in hidden corners and even positioned high on the rooftops.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Wilmslow Dean and members of the Wilmslow Business Group, the Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival has once again transformed the town - providing a really fun event for families to enjoy.

Rotarian Geoff Shelmerdine said "As usual it required some gentle persuasion over the past few months but it has payed off ! This year we have not only increased numbers again, we have also attracted 35 new entrants and the competition for Best Scarecrow is sooooo much higher. Many of those who have supported the Scarecrow Festival since 2010 are becoming more adept and creative. Recycling the previous years model has taken on a new meaning and anything goes when it comes to materials being used. I mean, just look at our Re-cycle Ruth, Waters Corporation and Nationwide Safety Surfaces.

"The members of Wilmslow Dean Rotary Club are delighted with the support this year and we hope it will encourage those not taking part to get involved and that the Scarecrow Festival is also for their benefit and local good causes."

The scarecrows will remain on show until Sunday July 14th and families can take part in the 'Scarecrow Treasure Hunt' with the opportunity to win some great prizes. Entry forms are available to collect from Bank Square on Saturday 6th and 13th July.

The fantastic Grand Scarecrow Parade will take place on Saturday, July 6th, with the giant Rotary scarecrows Rosie and Robin and the Batala Drumming Band, which will be supported this year by Cheshire Young Farmers.

They will depart from Sainsburys at 10.30am and parade along service road and down Grove Street to Bank Square. Then at 2.30pm they will set off from Bank Square and travel up Grove Street, along Water Lane and back down Grove Street to Bank Square.

The festival will culminate with a grand display of selected scarecrows at the Wilmslow Show on Sunday July 14th.

All the money raised will be used by the Rotary Club of Wilmslow Dean to support local charities and worthy causes, so far The Oakenclough Childrens Centre in Wilmslow and Arthritis Research UK have been selected as beneficiaries.

Perhaps the photo montage will include all scarecrows in the parade on July 6th and their location prior to July 14th.

Horse & jockey scarecrow spotted outside pub of same name on Gravel Lane.

Anyone spotted a CEC Mayoral or WTC Chairman scarecrow in full Civic Regalia?
Perhaps they could not afford the entry fee?

The real life versions may be on display at the Wilmslow Show.
