A new sports shop specialising in football and rugby is opening at the top of Church Street, in the premises previously occupied by the clothes shop Boutique Babylon.
Tate Jones and his wife Lindsay are excited about opening The Goal Post which they describe as a bit different to your traditional sport shop.
Tate is originally from Wales and moved to Wilmslow with his American wife Lindsay and their two children Liam (6) and Hannah (3) twenty months ago.
Having worked in business education for 8 years, in roles that took him to from Boston to Dubai, London and then Manchester, Tate felt ready for a new challenge and wanted to pursue something he is very passionate about.
Tate told wilmslow.co.uk "We wanted to bring something fresh and new to Wilmslow and so far the feedback and the support has been positive but we know it will be tough as sports retail has changed drastically in last 10 years.
"Most of the brands have been very supportive with our approach, it's been challenging with a few but we're positive that they'll want to be part of The Goal Post in Wilmslow."
He added "We are attempting to 'break the mould' of what a community football and rugby shop should feel, look and act locally. We are passionate about grassroots in the community, especially the junior/youth game.
"As well as being a shop we are also an independent brand, and we hope to bring our own fun twist to some products. We believe that football and rugby are on their own when it comes to bringing people together and can crossover like no other. In the end it's about grass, boots and beauty. We love that."
The Goal Post will be stocking everything needed to prepare for playing a game of football or rugby, whether it's in the back garden, local park, school or in competitive training and leagues.
Tate explained "There will be plenty for your little heroes as well as something for the senior players and fans who prefer the classic lines and look. We will also try and carry some unique brands that go with the lifestyle of both games."
Tate and Lindsay hope to start trading in early June, which will give them enough time to prepare for the new football and rugby season.
The Goal Post is located at 7 Bank Square, Wilmslow.
