Lindow Singers will be performing Pirates of Penzance this month. They will be joined by Sale Gilbert and Sullivan Society to put on a concert performance at Wilmslow High School on Saturday, 18th May.

Andrew Backhouse, Chair of the Lindow Singers, said "We love performing something a bit lighter in the summer months, and this seemed to be an ideal work for audiences to enjoy."

Lindow Singers are about to celebrate their 50th year as a Wilmslow based choir, and, to give them something different, they have asked for poems that members felt encapsulated some of the best of what Wilmslow was about, which can be set to music.

Andrew Backhouse commented "It was a hard choice – a lovely poem about the choir itself was fun and good, but its author did not want it publicised. One was in old English – and needed a good translation for the committee to understand it. And two were written by Wilmslow residents."

He added "It's good to perform a range of music, and really fun to do something to celebrate being residents of the Wilmslow area – a really good way to mark our 50th anniversary."

One of the choir members, has been working with Sasha Johnson Manning, who wrote the Manchester Carols, to compose the pieces. the Society would like to have something ready to perform at the Wilmslow Music Festival, but if not the first performance will be on November 10th at Wilmslow United Reformed Church.

The Pirates of Penzance will be performed at 7.30pm on Saturday 18th May at Wilmslow High School. Tickets are available at the door, priced £11, £10 for concessions and £2 for students, or in advance by calling 01625 532464.
