Report reveals 2012 was record year for business start-ups in Wilmslow

According to new figures released this week, a record number of new businesses were set up in Wilmslow during 2012.

The latest report by company formation agents Duport.co.uk, reveals that last year was a record year for company registrations in Wilmslow with a total of 1,175 companies formed in the town, compared with 598 in 2011.

In the second half of 2012 a total of 661 companies were formed in Wilmslow. This figure is 89.4% higher than 2011 and compares well to the UK wide figure of 6.5%.

However, the report shows that a total of 267 companies were also dissolved in Wilmslow in 2012. This total is 42.0% higher than in 2011 when 188 companies closed down.

2012 was also record year for net growth in Wilmslow when a total of 908 companies were added to the company register. This number is 498 companies higher than the previous year and represents growth of 151.8%, which compares favourably to the UK figure of 43.8%.

Additionally, the report shows that the town's share of UK companies reached its highest last year when Wilmslow formed 0.2% of all UK companies. This is an improvement on 2011 when Wilmslow was responsible for 0.1% of all UK companies.

Managing Director of Duport.co.uk, Peter Valaitis said: "The record level of company formation shows entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in Wilmslow. Increased net company growth suggests new businesses are staying open and rising UK company share indicates the town is becoming ever-more significant in the national economy."
