‘Beauty and the Beast’ – Another triumph for CHYPS

Local award winning youth panto society CHYPS had yet another roaring success with their latest pantomime at The Woodford Centre, ‘Beauty and the Beast’.

CHYPS Chairman Ian Hunt said "This was the most ambitious and technically challenging show we have staged since we started six years ago and it gives enormous credit to the entire cast and backstage team that it went so brilliantly.

"Beauty (Katie Stubbs) and the Beast (Sam Oakes) led a cast bursting with impressive performances. The band never missed a beat. Sonia Robinson excelled herself with magnificent, highly creative costumes, especially for the characters in the enchanted castle.

"The team of students from Stockport College produced spectacular make-up, including Cara Frost’s terrifying prosthetic for the Beast. The set was outstanding with backcloths from Sue Harris, set from Darren Broadhurst, and the mesmerising, petal-dropping rose from John McCarthy that captivated audiences every show."

A total audience of over 1100 people at the 6 sell-out shows included the Mayor and Mayoress of East Cheshire.

The Mayor, Councillor George M Walton, said "What a terrific evening the Mayoress and I enjoyed at Woodford. The CHYPS production of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ was absolutely outstanding. It was fast paced with terrific content. It’s a long time since we clapped so much."

In March CHYPS will be auditioning new cast members for the 2014 panto. For more information call 01625 529774 or visit www.chypspanto.com.

I would like to add that these CHYPS productions are excellent. It is heartening to see a fully staged traditional pantomime, with all the traditional components - dame, panto horse, audience participation, villains and heroes etc.properly performed, with just a little bit of cheeky inuendo from the dame. The attention to detail in all aspects is wonderful, and there is obviously a well disciplined rehearsal period, right to the presentation of the final walk-down. it's also great to see a live band - the boys were very cool in shirts and woollie hats. Actually, we have given up going to the Manchester pantos and look forward to CHYPS next year. Thank you.
