A real Christmas cracker!

The Wilmslow Green Room's second show for the current 2012-13 season opens on Friday, December 7th, with their production of Tim Firth's classic bittersweet comedy, Calendar Girls.

Licensed for amateur productions for a very limited period only, over 300 amateur societies around the UK are performing Calendar Girls this year. So much to the delight of their members, the Wilmslow Green Room couldn't let such a golden opportunity pass by.

It is of course based on the wonderful true story of an ordinary group of Yorkshire women who set out to raise money to pay for a settee for the visitor's room of the cancer wing of Skipton General hospital. Under the auspices of their local Women's Institute, they do this by producing a calendar of 'alternative views of Yorkshire'. The heart-warming story of their 'naked' success is now well documented.

For Green Room director, Charlie Cook, performing this play in the Green Room comes with a number of unique challenges. Firstly the famous 'bigger buns' scene will be observed by audiences on two sides. And secondly, the myriad of props and sets will need to be cleverly concealed and then presented within the theatre's intimate setting.

Calendar Girls runs at the Wilmslow Green Room's Chapel Lane theatre from Friday December 7th until Saturday December 15th. Understandably, tickets have flown out the box office for this production so for further information on seat availability, call 01625 540933 and for general information on this and for all future productions, please go to www.wgrsoc.org.uk.
