Alderley Road filling station closes

The Esso petrol station on Alderley Road has shut down.

A spokesperson from ExxonMobil said "Esso recently announced that its company-owned service stations in northern England and north Wales have been sold to an independent service station company, which will continue to operate them as Esso-branded service stations.

"The Kings Arms service station in Wilmslow was not included in this sale, because it is a leased site being returned to the landlord on expiry of the lease.

"Early in the New Year we will begin work with our specialist contractors to carry out any remediation work with minimal impact or disruption to the local community – safety will be our top priority at all times."

I know, lets hope someone builds an office block with, oh I don't know, say blue window frames that can remain empty for a decade or so. Ha, just kidding, what we really need is a coffee shop - did I just say that in print?

Many thanks to the regular staff who have reported in at unsocial hours and in all weathers.

I have recently heard that the landlord is Robinson's brewery - true or false? If true, what's the betting the next thing we have is the King's Arms/Chilli Banana being redeveloped into a bigger and possibly better restaurant/hotel/bars complex or even the whole site being redeveloped for something else. Come on - lets have some constructive ideas!!!!

@ John, yes the landlord is Robinsons and they also own the land Travis is on too.

There is no plan to redevelope the Kings Arms Hotel/Chili Banana, this will remain a friendly welcoming public house and fantastic Thai restaurant for the foreseeable future.

It will probably end up as another garage, or car wash/valet place or even just a bigger car park for the Kings Arms.

Or a place to store all the wrecked cars which seem to keep crashing on that roundabout recently!
