Residents out in force against plans for Moor Lane gypsy site

It was standing room only at last night's meeting of Wilmslow Town Council's Planning Committee.

Local residents filled the hall and corridor at Wilmslow Methodist Church on Monday, 26th November, to hear councillors discuss a second planning application to build a gypsy site on green belt land to the north west of Moor Lane.

The new application is a resubmission of controversial plans which were refused in July, for one residential family pitch, a touring caravan and a utility/day room to provide facilities for stationed caravans and additional hard standing.

At last night's meeting the Planning Committee of Wilmslow Town Council recommended refusal of application 12/4247M on the following grounds:

  • The development represents inappropriate use of the green belt with no appropriate special circumstances identified.
  • The concerns as to the ecological impact of the development.
  • The potential increase in traffic and access problems on an already inappropriate road.
  • The lack of detail and ambiguous nature of the application.
  • The danger of setting a precedent for further green belt development.

The planning application, reference 12/4247M, can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website.

The last date for submitting comments is 12th December and the application is expected to be discussed at a meeting of the Northern Planning Committee on Wednesday 19th December. A decision should be made by 1st January 2013.

The Council received over 600 letters objecting to the initial proposal (reference 12/1144M) and to date over 150 letters have been submitted regarding planning application 12/4247M.

If these gypsys are going to be anything like the Big Fat Gypsy wedding ones, then gawd help Wilmslow. Why on earth are you inviting these people to come and live here?

Glad it has been rejected, it's a boring point to make but green belt should be green belt.

It's only been objected to so far by the Wilmslow Town Council Planning Committee who are supporting the local residents' concerns, not by Cheshire East. If YOU object or have concerns, you should make these evident either in writing to Cheshire East's Planning Department or online at http://bit.ly/TjB80m

The planning application, reference 12/4247M and can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website. Don't leave it to others to voice their concerns. Make sure you voice yours too - if you have any!

So only 1/4 of the number of letters of objection that were received against the original proposal. That's worrying - it suggests that folk might not know that those original objection lettrs are now dead, along with the aoriginal application.

You have to object again to this application! New application - new objection! Spread the word!

Anyone who disagrees with this application needs to record the objection. I don't see why it should involve much more effort as it mainly involves updating original objection letters with the new planning reference, detailed above. The initial objections most people expressed are still highly relevant, as we don't have much new information at present. If we are complacent and don't fight this we will all have to live with the consequences!

I am absolutely appalled to discover that all the information gathered earlier on in the year concerning the inappropriate use of this piece of green belt land tucked away in a historically rich area has not been sufficient to prevent the reintroduction of planning permission 12/427M that would enable a permanent gypsy site to be established
There are several anomolies surrounding this case, including

1) the exact number of caravans to be catered for
2) the fact that Lindow Common in Wilmslow is not an ideal location for patients who are receiving treatment in Manchester, especially if they are intending using public transport
3) how the local tax-paying residents are to fund the extra strain on local ammenities
4) the disruption to the local population while building is in progress
5) the impact on local traffic bearing in mind that the site is tucked away in an environmentally rich area.

These issues should be addressed as part of the decision making process.

Agree with the last comment that this is not a convenient location for treatment in Manchester. Be careful if objecting on line as the Supprt box comes up ticked and one has to un tick !!

When you have put your objection in , try and get two other people to object , 600 X 3 = a lot more objections. I apologise for the duff gen re the special needs , the agent put the item in the public domain ref this application in the Advertiser interview , therefore that subject can be covered in an objection.

It seems to make sense to me to continue to object to these proposals. However, i do not doubt that there will be repeated applicaitons designed to ensure that finally, a planning approvalwill be granted. I believe the council, legally should set a finite number of times for such applications, ( all those with minor amendments too), in order to avoid the expense of dealing with repeated applications, which will come out of our taxes at greater financial loss to the community.

We must make everyone aware that they need to re-object, and there were also lots
of Wilmslow people who didn't know of the first application.[not everyone gets the local paper]
Communication is going to be vital.

The applicants have now submitted their Personal statement , outlining the personal reasons they consider to be relevant to their Planning Application (12/4247M). The submission is available on cheshire East’s website under planning. Any resident wishing to comment , refute or object to the submission has until January 6th to do so.
Input from Health , Welfare or Educational professionals would be very useful.
