The new Everybody Fitness Suite was officially opened at Wilmslow Leisure Centre on Saturday, 24th November.

The Mayor of Cheshire East, Councillor George Walton, and Mayoress were joined by Paralympic cycling medallist Craig Maclean for the official opening.

Speaking at the event, Councillor Rod Menlove, Cabinet member in charge of environmental services, said "Wilmslow Leisure Centre is one of the largest in Cheshire East, attracting over three hundred thousand visits every year. We do provide a high quality leisure, health and fitness experience here and this is even more important as next year the responsibility for public health is transferred to the Council.

"And let us not forget the other improvements here over the past few years: the new catering and vending suppliers, the new swimming changing rooms, the more welcoming reception area, the improvements to the lighting that have also saved money and carbon emissions. And now we come to the latest improvement - the addition of this wonderful new fitness suite.

"We have invested around £150,000 and it is fair to say it was a much-needed project. We are determined to keep this facility at Wilmslow Leisure Centre fresh and up to date so that we are always providing the best service for our local residents and this we aim to do through our new leasing and maintenance arrangements within our 5 year partnership with Matrix Fitness."

This is the fifth new Everybody Fitness Suite since Cheshire East Council was established, in two weeks time the sixth will be officially opened at Macclesfield Leisure Centre and more are planned for 2013.
