Arrangements for the Olympic homecoming parade in Wilmslow on Wednesday, 31st October, have been changed, as Victoria Pendleton is now unable to attend the planned activities.

A spokesperson from Cheshire East Council said "Despite dates and times being agreed with Victoria, her representatives have only recently indicated that she now needs to be in London as part of her commitments to the BBC."

The Olympian is now unable to make the homecoming parade and civic reception with Paralympian Craig Maclean. She will be visiting Wilmslow High School at around 4.30pm on Wednesday to speak with pupils and meet the Mayor of Cheshire East Councillor George Walton, however this event will not be open to members of the public.

Apart from this, previous arrangements for the event will go ahead as planned.

An open-top parade will tour the streets of Wilmslow, where cyclist Craig will be showing off the gold medal he won as a pilot in the men's tandem sprint for the blind and visually impaired. Craig will be joined by his cycling partner Anthony Kappes, who lives in nearby Hazel Grove.

This will be followed by a civic reception at the leisure centre where there will be speeches from Cheshire East Council's Mayor and the Chair of Wilmslow Town Council Jim Crockatt.

After the formalities Craig will answer questions and pose for photos.

The parade starts at 5.30pm at Holly Road North, turning right into Alderley Road, along Grove Street, right into Swan Street and ending at Wilmslow Leisure Centre at 6.15pm.

It will be recommended that both Craig and Victoria be granted the freedom of the Borough by Cheshire East Council, along with our other Olympians and Paralympians.
