New deli planned for Bank Square

A new delicatessen is opening in the town centre next month which the owners hope will become the foodie destination in Wilmslow.

Hawthorns Deli will be located at 11 Bank Square, in the premises previously occupied by Square Barm, and is expected to open at the end of November.

This is a new business venture for sisters Janice Goode and Maxine Drabble along with their friend Jane Williams.

Jane and Janice have many years of catering experience, which has included running pubs, school kitchens, working as chefs in pubs, and for the past seven years Janice has been working at Quarry Bank Mill where she has been baking their scones and cakes.

The three ladies have been discussing going into business together for a number of years. In December 2011 Jane and Janice started Glamour Puds, making puddings to selling on local markets and in local delis and farm shops. While looking for a larger kitchen unit they came across the shop at 11 Bank Square which the owner was looking to sell.

Jane Williams said "While trading on farmers markets around Cheshire, and the Artisan markets in Wilmslow, Middlewich and Knutsford we have met many local producers of some fabulous food and drink.

"We aim to stock the best of these products which aren't available in supermarkets and to create a deli which specialises in local, independent, artisan, handmade food. Already signed up are some of the area's award winning producers, and wherever possible we will source our stock from Cheshire and the North West."

Hawthorns Deli will also have a seating area for coffee, homemade cakes, afternoon tea and light snacks. They will offer a takeaway range, including fresh sandwiches, savouries, and soups, and be able to cater for outside events.

In addition they will be holding cookery demonstrations and small classes for budding home cooks as well as a hosting other events.
