At a recent meeting of the Wilmslow Dean Rotary Club, President Ian Bradley presented local resident Kevin Kelly with the highest honour bestowed on an individual by Rotary.

'The Paul Harris Fellowship' award, named after it's founder Paul Harris, recognises humanitarian contributions which help to improve the lives of others in communities both at home and abroad.

Past recipients of the prestigious Rotary award have included HRH Prince Philip, HRH Prince Charles, PM Margaret Thatcher and every USA President.

In presenting the award, President Ian said "I am delighted to acknowledge Kevin who truly embodies those atributes having given both excellent service to his local community and international community and involving the Rotary Club of Wilmslow Dean in both.

"Locally, Kevin has, amongst other things, given many of our young people an outlet for their energy and has provided a valuable service to the community. Internationally, he has saved lives and helped to make them better."

Kevin, who lives on the Summerfield esate with his wife Ann, has worked directly with the local communities through his work with the Fire Service. He has helped to establish twenty-eight Fire Cadets units since 1992 and has played a leading role in their biannual trip to Ghana to help with their school building project.

He has also been a field commander for the first UK Fire Service Search and Rescue Team leading the Cheshire Team during rescue work in Turkey and India following disastrous earthquakes. Kevin is also involved with The Prince's Trust.
