ArcAngel launch to help reduce alcohol related crime

Wilmslow was officially granted its status as an ArcAngel Protected Town and held its launch event in Bank Square at 3pm on Saturday 1st September.

Sergeant Andy Miller was present at the launch along with Hannah Wong from Trading Standards. The 12 licensees who had signed up to the initiative so far are: The Bollin Fee, Revolution, The Boardroom, The Merlin, The Slug & Lettuce, The Miller & Carter Steakhouse, The Coach and Four, The Kings Arms, The Farmers Arms, Wilmslow Royal British Legion Club, Revolution and The St Lounge.

The licensees involved had to pass a number of criteria designed to promote responsible drinking and public safety and were assessed by Wilmslow Police and Trading Standards.

Sgt Andy Miller said "We are incredibly pleased with the cooperation shown by all the pubs and clubs, in ensuring that Wilmslow remains a safe place to enjoy a night out."

Chairman of Wilmslow Town Council Jim Crockett, presented licensees with their certificates to award them ArcAngel status along with promotional packs. Colin McKevitt, Director at the Boardroom stated "We hope that by proving our commitment to public safety, the standards laid down by ArcAngel and a great customer experience that people choose us for their night out."

ArcAngel is part of a joint approach to tackling alcohol related crime and underage drinking with the aim to encourage responsible drinking, discourage drinking in public, help reduce the number of incidents of alcohol related assaults and make towns and cities a safer place during a night out.
