Wilmslow resident, Charlie Cook, has been active in local amateur societies for over 20 years, directing and acting in over 150 shows for theatres such as the Wilmslow Green Room, the Heald Green Theatre Company, the Stockport Garrick and the Altrincham Garrick to name just four of many.

And for some years now, Charlie has also turned his talents to writing successful plays. His detective spoof "Sherlock Holmes's Last Case" won five awards, has been published online and has been staged around the world on dozens of occasions.

In addition to his one act productions, he has also had three full length plays published.

So it was no surprise that he should submit his latest comedy "Who Was That?" to run in the Greater Manchester Drama Federation's (GMDF) 52nd season of its One-Act Play Festival.

As the name suggests, this is a competitive festival of one-act plays which runs from Monday June 11th until Saturday June 16th at various venues across the region. The GMDF is recognised as one of the leading associations representing amateur theatre here in the North West of England.

Its main aims are to promote, encourage and develop theatre drama in the region for all to enjoy.

"Who Was That" is directed by Tom Thistleton. The plot surrounds a seemingly happily married couple, Sylvia and Tom Thornton and the action takes place in their living room and across the road in their local pub. Sylvia (Lindsey Barker) has a secret!

And when Tom (Charlie Cook) goes off for a night with the lads, an unexpected visitor at their home causes comical concern. On Tom's return, the ensuing action results in the inevitable unravelling of Sylvia's secret.....

Not only can Charlie's comedy be seen at the Brookdale in Bramhall (ticket line 0161-439 0505) on Friday June 15th as part of the GMDF's Festival, he will also be performing it at Hale Theatre's (ticket line 0161-928 1113) own One Act Festival on Thursday June 21st.
