Members from the Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra are playing a concert in support of Handforth Parish Church's chosen charity, The Leprosy Mission.

Talented brass, woodwind and string ensembles will perform a light classical chamber music concert at St Chad's Parish Church Handforth on Saturday, 26th May.

The concert will commence at 7.30pm and proceeds from the concert will be shared equally with the Leprosy Mission.

Gareth Brown, the Director of Church Music at St. Chad's, who is also the principal trombonist in the Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra came up with the idea for this event.

He said "This is a wonderful opportunity for the people of Handforth and the surrounding area to come and listen to some of the most talented local musicians playing a programme of light classical music, whilst at the same time supporting both a local arts organisation and a very worthwhile international cause."

The vicar of St Chad's, Reverend Steve Burmester added "St Chad's has supported the Leprosy Mission for over 50 years. In recent years several church members have raised hundreds of pounds in sponsorship by walking across Morecombe Bay and cycling round the Isle of Man. So, it is with great pleasure that we can be associated with Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra for this concert in our attempt to raise further funds for this worthwhile cause."

The Leprosy Mission established in 1874 is an International Christian development organisation, which regardless of religion or ethnicity, supports projects to help and treat Leprosy in over 30 countries across Africa, South Asia and East Asia. For more information visit the Leprosy Mission website.

Tickets for the evening are priced at £10.00 for adults and £2.00 for under 18's. They are available from St. Chad's Church Office on 01625 532145 and at the door on the night of the concert.
