Community effort to improve Handforth planters

Local schoolchildren joined volunteers this week to improve an area of Handforth by adding a little greenery.

A group of children from St Benedicts Primary School helped volunteers put plants at the entrance to Hallwood Road in Handforth on Tuesday, 15th May.

The Wilmslow Local Area Partnership project was a collaborative effort between a range of groups, including Handforth Parish Council, Incredible Edible, the Unpaid Work Scheme, Cheshire East Councillors, St Benedicts Primary School and local residents to improve the planters at the entrance to Hallwood Road - after complaints from local residers that they had become overgrown and full of rubbish.

Wilmslow LAP arranged for the shrubs and overgrown bushes to be cleared last year, along with the empty cans and other litter, and Handforth Parish Council supported the project by providing a selection of fruit bushes and herbs which were planted.

Richard Christopherson, LAP Manager, said "Local residents have already commented on wonderful the planters look and have agreed to water and maintain the areas in the future."
