Green Room presents Lonesome West

Lonesome West

The Wilmslow Green Room's May production is a contemporary black comedy penned by Academy Award-winning, Irish playwright Martin McDonagh.

Lonesome West features the constantly arguing brothers, Coleman (Sandy McGregor) and Valene (Bill Nolan). Their father has recently been killed in an apparent shotgun accident although neither brother appears to manifest any sadness or grief at his passing. Valene shows greater interest in his religious figurines and Coleman prefers to attend other people's funerals to enjoy the accompanying repast.

The hatred the two men have for each other escalates and they argue about anything and everything: whose turn it is to read a magazine; who left the top off the pen; who eats too much; who drinks too much and so on. Like a modern day Tom and Jerry, the brothers are locked in a cycle of comic and pointless violence. Even the pleas of the wonderfully ineffective local priest, Father Welsh fail to prevent the bizarre conclusion. This alcoholic man of God (Richard Ellis) does what he can to reconcile the two men's differences but with little success and a disastrous outcome. Perhaps their fighting is the best way for them to co-exist? Time will tell. . . . . .

Green Room stalwarts Sandy McGregor, Bill Nolan, Richard Ellis and Alison Fleming star in McDonagh's unique blend of comedy and horror. You can be assured of a terrifyingly funny evening. Welcome to the 'Lonesome West' - murder, suicide and the abuse of kitchen appliances..!
