CycleWilmslow brought local bike users together for their annual open meeting on Thursday, April 19th.

The campaign group was joined by Peter Green, Greater Manchester Area Manager for Sustrans – the sustainable transport charity, who gave an insight into the organisation's work to develop cycling and walking routes in the north west.

Rob Sawyer, CycleWilmslow's Chairman, said "The event was a great success with a good turnout including representatives from the National Trust and Transition Wilmslow. In addition to Peter Green's interesting presentation we reviewed CycleWilmslow's achievements in 2011.

"These included a revised cycle map and securing of a grant for cycle parking at the station and High School in collaboration with the Council and Sustrans. We have also fed into the Wilmslow Vision consultation process and are delighted that walking and cycle feature heavily in the draft plan."

Rob added: "CycleWilmslow is a voluntary organisation and we'd welcome more people coming on board to work with the committee to advocate cycling in our local area. In 2012 we hope to contribute to progress on a multi-user "greenway" through the Carrs and ensure that the A555 extension to the airport and Hazel Grove caters for cycling."
