Wilmslow enters North West in Bloom

Wilmslow will be taking part in this year's North West in Bloom competition with an 'edibles' theme.

Incredible Edible has teamed up with the Wilmslow Business Group, members of which will be taking control of the space outside their businesses, and the Town Council who will be organising litter picks and sponsoring a sculpture.

The aims of the competition are to encourage local communities to improve and care for their environment through imaginative planting of trees, shrubs, flowers and landscaping, conservation and recycling projects, and to sweep away eyesores that blight our streets such as litter, graffiti and vandalism.

The competiton is based on four fundamental elements: horticultural excellence, community involvement, environmental friendliness and sustainability. By taking part in the competition local communities can benefit from an increase in civic pride, a long term improvement in their local environment, a boost to the local economy including regeneration of run down and disadvantaged areas as well as boosting tourism.

Helen Yates, who launched Incredible Edible Wilmslow, said "Each entry gets to select its own theme so we have gone with 'edibles' to fit in with what Incredible Edible volunteers have begun to do on some town centre spots. As well as businesses we're calling all residents, churches, schools, gyms and health centres to join in the planting campaign to make Wilmslow bloom and unite the town.

"All people need to do to be involved is to plant their outdoor space with edibles for everyone to see to brighten up the front. To link further, they can choose to send us a photo to go on the Summer slideshow (coming soon on the website) and if they let us know the street name, we can add it to the judges tour route in July/ August."

Incredible Edible are also looking for more volunteers to help with the town centre plots too, they meet at 2pm on the first Sunday of every month outside the library.
