A Wilmslow musician has taken second place in the Traditional Youth Marching Band Association (TYMBA) Musician of the Year competition.

Shereena Hewitt from the Alderley District Scout Band got to the final of the competition, after winning preliminary competitions which were held throughout 2011.

She competed against the top six marching band musicians from around the UK in the finals of the TYMBA Musician of the Year 2011 on January 29th, where Sherena, playing a non-valued Bugle, came second in what proved to be a tough competition.

Organiser Carl Nelson said: "Congratulations to all of the competitors, they all played brilliantly in what I imagine to be quite a stressful situation, especially stood up there on that stage looking down at everyone."

Shereena, shown left, is a leading member of the Alderley District Scout Band and can be seen leading the band on it's public events during 2012 in and around Wilmslow, Alderley Edge and Knutsford.
