£35000 energy grant for Wilmslow residents

Handforth heat loss

The Department for Energy and Climate Change has awarded Transition Wilmslow, working with Groundwork Cheshire, £35000 to help raise awareness of ways to reduce household energy consumption in the Wilmslow area.

They will work with local homeowners and community buildings to make them more aware of where they lose heat and how they could reduce fuel costs.

Transition Wilmslow has teamed up with the Wilmslow High School Eco Team and its own green ambassadors to photo as many houses as they can with thermal imaging cameras, to show where energy is being lost, and identify simple steps to reduce this. The Groundwork Cheshire Green Doctor will be available to implement simple improvements.

Rachel Corrigan, from Transition Wilmslow, said “Householders pay a substantial amount on heating their homes so if we can show them where they are losing heat, and simple ways to reduce heat loss we both save energy and money.  At the same time we will be conducting surveys of the various church and community halls around Wilmlsow, to help them to identify possible reductions.”

What’s your house like at wasting energy? We all know about putting in double glazing and roof insulation, but what would a thermal imaging camera shot of your house reveal?

Do you fancy helping with your own house and some neighbours?

There will be introductory sessions in Handforth and Wilmslow to learn more about this and how to help. Email Andrew Backhouse or call me on 01625 537087.
